Excerpt from A History of the Republican Party
Early in February, 1900, the writer delivered an address before the Stamina Republican League of Cincinnati on "The Origin and Rise of the Republican Party." The interest in the subject shown by the audience and the many words of approbation led to a deeper consideration of the history of the Party, and the address was repeated on a more elaborate plan before many other organizations in Cineinnati and vicinity.
It soon became apparent that the great majority of every audience had very vague recollections of the tragic events which led to the organization of the Party, and of its early history, owing perhaps to the fact that they belonged to a generation that had followed the enactment of those events.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book recounts the formation, evolution, and impact of the Republican Party. Beginning with the repeal of the Missouri Compromise in 1854, it traces how the fusion of various groups opposed to the extension of slavery led to the birth of a major political force. The work examines the challenges and complexities the Republican Party faced as it promoted the cause of abolition and then led the nation through the tumultuous period of Reconstruction. It shows how the party's early focus on a single issue transformed over the years into a comprehensive and enduring political platform. The author demonstrates how the Republican Party's struggle against slavery, and its subsequent efforts to address the legacy of slavery, were deeply intertwined with the social, economic, and political development of the United States. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
