The winged fairies of Grimm and Andersen have brought more happiness to childish hearts than all other human creations. Yet the old-time fairy tale, having served for generations, may now be classed as historical in the childrens library; for the time has come for a series of newer wonder tales in which the stereotyped genie, dwarf and fairy are eliminated, together with all the horrible and blood-curdling incident devised by their authors to point a fearsome moral to each tale. Modern education includes morality; therefore the modern child seeks only entertainment in its wonder-tales and gladly dispenses with all disagreeable incident. Having this thought in mind, the story of The Wonderful Wizard of Ozwas written solely to pleasure children of to-day. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmares are left out. r.. At ., L. FRANK BAUM. Chicago, A pril, 1900.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who is swept away to a magical land by a cyclone. In this new world, she encounters a cast of unusual characters, including a Scarecrow longing for brains, a Tin Woodman yearning for a heart, and a Cowardly Lion seeking courage. The author weaves together elements of classic fairy tales with a unique blend of whimsy and adventure, creating a fantastical journey where Dorothy must overcome obstacles and discover the true meaning of friendship and self-discovery. The authorââ â¢s intention, as stated in the introduction, was to craft a modern fairy tale that offered entertainment and joy, devoid of the often-dark and gruesome aspects found in traditional tales. This book, then, can be seen as a precursor to a new genre of childrenââ â¢s literatureââ âone that focuses on moral lessons through imaginative narratives rather than relying on fear and violence. The authorââ â¢s innovative approach to the fairy tale form makes this book both a timeless classic and a signpost for the future of childrenââ â¢s literature.
