The inflection of verbs, regu1ar and irregu1ar, and a brief
outline of the subjunctive are inserted in an Appendix for
the convcnience of those teachcrs whose plan of work con�
nects these topics with the reader. Mention of a few of the
most important points of the Revised French Syntax follows.
The main feature of the Appendix, however, consists in
graded lists of words and idioms carefully selected from the
text. These are designed for use in review and in the acquisition
of a defin ite vocabulary. In the choice of the words,
those whose form suggests at once their English mean ing
have been excluded. The idioms are either quoted literally,
or else so simplified as to bring out more clearly the point
at issue. Thorough knowledge of these lists will go far in
giving mastery over the u sight-reading" of examination
requirements.
This volume has been shaped to conform to the needs of
