Explore the basic ideas behind how matter behaves—through clear, practical explanations you can trust.
This edition surveys units, dimensions, and the way we measure physical quantities, showing how choosing different standards changes the numbers we use. It also introduces the kinetic view of gases, explains why pressure, volume, and temperature relate the way they do, and demonstrates how dimensional analysis helps check formulas.
This approachable text guides you from the foundations of measurement to the ideas that underpin experiments in physics and engineering. It emphasizes practical reasoning, with examples that illustrate how scientists derive relationships and verify them against real data. If you’re curious about how a simple pendulum or a gas behaves, you’ll find the core concepts explained with accessible language and concrete reasoning.Les informations fournies dans la section « Synopsis » peuvent faire référence à une autre édition de ce titre.
Under the title Properties of Matter the author has endeavoured to treat those branches of Physics which are not usually included in books on Light, Sound, Heat, orE lectricity. The book is intended for use inS econdary Schools, Technical Schools, and University Colleges, and includes all that is usually required for a Pass degree. The treatment is experimental, and the use of advanced mathematics has been avoided; but the calculus has been used in places where the avoidance of it leads to tedious calculations. It is hoped that this volume will fulfil a useful function by providing an elementary course of work on the Properties of Matter, from which the more intricate details and the more advanced theory are omitted.
