This text-book has been prepared to meet the needs of pupils studying Spanish in secondary schools. It is based on the idea that such pupils need a very large amount of easy reading and that the reading material should deal with the ordinary experiences which enter into the lives of the pupils by whom the book is to be used. To this end our text presents a series of episodes from the life of a group of boys and girls, in school and at home, in city and country. The plan of the book is in very large measure due to Professor Marshall L. Perrin of Boston University, with whom we have for many years studied and discussed the problems of modern language instruction. The execution of the plan is entirely our own. Our aim has been to produce a text which should be as easy as possible without being at the same time wooden or unidiomatic in style. We have introduced the common irregular verbs into the first pages, have used the ordinary everyday idioms from the very outset
