Biographie de l'auteur

Joan Ostrander nee Schweitzer (Albert may be kin-or not) was born on January 8, 1921 in De Smet, South Dakota in the Grand Hotel, a something less than grand hotel that her parents operated at the time. Ma and Mary Ingalls, whom you may remember from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, were still living there back then-Pa Ingalls had died a few years before this. Sometime later, but earlier than memory reaches, the Schweitzer family moved to Mitchell, South Dakota where the first "Bits" began.Bits and Pieces of Way Back When is a compilation of events and observations that span the years of The Great Depression including The Dust Bowl, World War Two, and the eventful, often tragic times that followed. it was written from the viewpoint of one whose 88th birthday is rapidly approaching. A lot of history has happened during those years. If it is as our leading geneticists assure us, that each human being is unique, the only trick to writing a book that is also unique is to be absolutely candid. Considerable effort has been made to do that. Zero effort has been made to write a coherent narrative. If you're into reading about great historical eras from the viewpoint of someone of miniscule importance in the grand scheme of things, this book is for you.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Bits and Pieces of Way Back When is a collection of memoirs related from the vantage point of a few months shy of the author's eightieth birthday. It includes those events from earliest childhood in the 1920s, through the Depression/Dust Bowl years, a coming-of-age on the brink of World War II as well as that war's duration and immediate aftermath. Because these have remained tenaciously in memory within easy recall, they have taken on an aura of importance to the author at any rate. A lot of history happened during those years, and these are the recollections of one of the cajillions of folks who lived through it all. Everyone, from top geneticists to Monica, the angel, have told us that each human being is unique, and as long as we accept that premise, the only trick to writing a book that is also unique, is to be absolutely candid. Considerable effort has been made to do just that. Zero effort has been made to write a coherent narrative. If you're into reading about great historical eras from the viewpoint of someone of miniscule importance in the grand scheme of things, this book is for you!
