Synopsis

Skee helps Danny charm one of the latter, and together they lay siege to Las Vegas for the former. They beat the pants off casinos and develop a nightclub act with Calvin the talking myna. Skee still needs a main squeeze, though .... Rich, they build a bastion outside Vegas and develop high-tech gadgetry for Skee. The rat sets out in search of a mate; with the unlikely help of an old prospector, he finds Aster, an intelligent female. Soon Skee has lots of intelligent descendants. And they need lots of money .... The years pass. The rats continue their scavenging ways, ripping off banks and drug dealers, and eventually draw the attention of---who else---the FBI. Can the brainy rodents stay out of the government's clutches? A madcap showdown near Isleta will decide the rats' fate.

Winter Laite grew up in New Mexico. After working as an avionics tech, bartender, bodyguard, bouncer, car salesman, chauffeur, computer tech, cook, coral importer, jewelry exporter, radiation counter repairman, and translator, he became a lawyer. Winter has lived in Holland, Spain, and Puerto Rico; he speaks reasonably good Spanish, Dutch, German and Catalan, and a smattering of several other languages. He hopes to retire in Catalunya.
