Synopsis

This alphabet book is meant to introduce the Punjabi Gurmukhi script to children in the U.S. and other countries who are more comfortable with English. This book is divided into six sections. In the first section, the alphabet chart of Gurmukhi is provided. In the second section, the letters of Gurmukhi are introduced. In the third section, the vowels of Gurmukhi are introduced. In second and third sections, each letter is introduced by means of a picture of a Punjabi word beginning with the letter. A good approximation to pronouncing the letter and the word in English is given. The English translation of the word and the name of the letter is also provided. In the fourth section, the form of different letters when they are combined with different matras are shown. The fifth section introduces a simple approach to get a beginner to read Punjabi words. In the sixth section, the basic Punjabi numbers are introduced.
