William Shawcross, author of the best-selling Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother: The Official Biography - a book that was called "monumental" by reviewers - has created a new perspective on her life through a masterful selection of her personal letters. A prolific correspondent throughout her long life, from before the First World War to the turn of the twenty-first century, Elizabeth's writing displays a keen intelligence, an unwavering sense of duty and a generous heart. The letters she receives from her many correspondents, famous and otherwise, open a window on the great events of the twentieth century.
