Robert Powell started his acting career while attending Manchester University. He made his film debut in 1967 and later landed his first starring role in The Italian Job. Some of his well known movies include Franco Ziefirelli's Jesus of Nazareth, Ken Russell's Tommy, and the remake of The Thirty-Nine Steps. He has also appeared in and narrated numerous television programmes.
