Synopsis

'Moving to Paradise' is about, well, moving to Paradise-Paradise, California that is. I have to admit that stories about pets and friends and stuff that has nothing at all to do with moving to Paradise got chucked in. The resulting scrapbook medley goes to show you how seemingly trivial comments or events sometimes lead us along our major pathways. The retelling of those journeys is often humorous, at least in hindsight, well, at least some of the time.

À propos de l'auteur

I grew up in Brookfield, Illinois. Oh, you're starting to groan already. You think you're in for the long version, huh? Give me a chance. For starters, 'Gross School' was the name of my elementary school. Did that get your attention? Seriously, that's what it was called and still is-named after Samuel Eberly Gross, a lawyer who bought up a bunch of land in that area in the 1800's. It could have been a lot worse-the town was originally named 'Grossdale'. That's like handing a kid live ammunition. After all, elementary school classmates managed to take my simple name, 'Jonas, ' (In fifth grade we called everyone by their last name. I don't know why.) and make it derisive by shifting the accent to the second syllable, [Jon-ASS]. Can you imagine what those kids from the neighboring town of Riverside would have done with 'Grossdale?' Gratefully, the town's name was changed to 'Brookfield' in 1905, before I had to deal with that. My name, sadly, stayed 'Jon-ASS' until junior high. Perhaps those childhood linguistic issues explains why I wound up living in 'Paradise', California. Maybe.
