Synopsis

This book examines the question of whether homosexuality as a trait is a nonmoral good as opposed to the question whether homosexual acts are morally good or right. The analysis incorporates insights from the biological and social sciences and is based upon assumptions about sexuality consistent with a Christian theological point of view. It closes with a recommendation for a Biblical and compassionate approach to the church's ministry of gays and lesbians.

J. Robert (Bob) Ross, Ph.D. is the principal in Anchor Counseling & Consulting, which provides counseling for individuals and families and educational seminars for churches and schools. He received his education at Southeastern Louisiana University (B.S., 1962), Columbia Theological Seminary (B.D., 1962) and Emory University (Ph.D., 1969). He is an ordained minister and most recently a charter member of a new church, the Bluegrass Christian Community in Lexington, KY. Bob is a Kentucky Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the local presenter for the nationally acclaimed Smart Discipline seminar. His experience includes 11 years in campus ministry, several years teaching at Southeastern Christian College, Winchester, KY; Lincoln Christian College and Seminary; Lincoln, IL; Alabama A & M University, a predominantly black college in Huntsville, AL; and Midway College, Midway, KY. In 1980 he made a mid-life career shift when he became the Director of the Christian Counseling Center in Mt. Vernon, IL. He has had his own counseling practice in Lexington since 1987. Ross is the author of Baptism: What a Blessing! (2009); editor of The War Within: Violence or Nonviolence in the Black Revolution (Sheed and Ward, 1971); a contributor to The American Family: Life and Health (Third Party Associates, 1986) and Dreams, Visions and Oracles ed. Armeding and Gasque (1977); and has published numerous articles in both scholarly journals and popular magazines including The Restoration Quarterly, Christian Standard, and The Lookout. He is a member of the Lexington Rotary Club and a member of the Lexington Network, an organization devoted to the promotion of inter racial understanding. He initiated the establishment of the Bluegrass Community Marriage Task Force and served as first Chairman of the Task Force, which is engaged in the development of guidelines to strengthen healthy marriages in the community. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is the organization's Past-President.
