Brian Wynn Huynh Travis was born as Hung Van Huynh in Phan Thiet, South Vietnam, on May 19, 1970. Travis attended Hillsdale High School in San Mateo and later the Community College of San Mateo. Then in 2002, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University, Sacramento. In 2000, he and his wife Joy moved their family to Fairfield, where they have lived since. He is currently on the City of Fairfield Citizen Advisory Committee to the Tri-City Planning and Cooperative Group. He also serves on the Pedestrian Advisory Committee to the Solano Transportation Authority (STA). Travis is currently a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves and is assigned to the WARISC at Camp Parks, Dublin, California. He is a veteran of the Bosnia Conflict and is also an Iraq War veteran serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a decorated soldier from his time in service. One of the most prestigious awards he received was the Bronze Star for his exemplary service in Iraq from 2004 to 2005. He is also a public servant in his civilian career. He became a police officer for the South San Francisco Police Department in March 1999. He served in various capacities from patrol, to SWAT operator, to working in their Downtown Bicycle Patrol Program. In 2006, he made the transition to Solano County Sheriff's Office and became a deputy. In 2008, Travis was awarded "Solano County Deputy of the Year," which later helped him to be recognized as an outstanding deputy and selected to be a Sheriff's detective in 2009. He is currently a detective for the sheriff's office.
