Old Wayne is the fourth history Cletis R. Ellinghouse has written since he retired from a lifetime of publishing weekly newspapers in southeast Missouri. Wayne County's Lost River Settlements explores the emotional abandonment and subsequent destruction by the government of a number of small communities to prepare the landscape for construction of Lake Wappapello. Piedmont: A Sesquicentennial History is his study of the old Iron Mountain Railroad town where he finished his high school work. In Mingo he revisits the countryside around an ancient swamp that's now a part of Mingo National Wildlife Refuge. His home in Puxico is a short drive from the Refuge and Lake Wappapello.
