Présentation de l'éditeur

To carry one and the same character through five several works would seem to be a wilful overdrawing on the good nature of the public, and many persons may very reasonably suppose it an act, of itself, that ought to invite a rebuke. To this natural objection, the author can only say that, if he has committed a grave fault on this occasion, his readers are in some measure answerable for it. The favourable manner in which the more advanced career, and the death of LeatherS tocking were received, has created, in the mind of the author, at least, a sort of necessity for giving some account of his younger days. In short, the pictures of his life, such as they are, were already so complete as to excite some little desire to see the study, from which they have all been drawn. The Leather-S tocking Tales now form some thing like a drama in five acts jcomplete as to material and design, though probably very incomplete as to execution. Such as they are, the reading world has them before it.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book, a classic in American literature, delves into the rich tapestry of frontier life in 18th century New York. It unfolds against the backdrop of vast forests and unspoiled wilderness, where the clash between civilization and the untamed spirit of nature rages. At its heart is the iconic figure of Natty Bumppo, a skilled hunter and tracker known as Leatherstocking, who epitomizes the resilience and resourcefulness of the American frontiersman. Through his eyes, we witness the challenges and triumphs of living on the edge of civilization, the beauty of the natural world, and the complex relationships between settlers and Native Americans. This book explores the themes of identity, belonging, and the search for one's place in a rapidly changing world, offering a profound meditation on the American experience and the enduring power of the human spirit.
