Following his discharge from The Army Air Corps in l945, Robert Butler and wife Betty, along with their big Airedale, Buck strike out to find a beautiful mountainous county in western North Carolina. Their dream is to purchase a large mountainous tract of land, where they can settle down to a peaceful life. Forced to struggle for a while to earn a living, Robert makes two amazing discoveries on his mountain. This profoundly changes their life afterwards.

Robert E. Edney, born in 1921, in Polk County, North Carolina, a beautiful, mountainous area, where the Piedmaont Plateau, and Mountains divided the county equally. Edney struggled with his parents through the great depression of the thirties and graduated from high school in 1939. He spent two and half years in the Panama Canal Zone, working on military defence house. Entering the Army Air Corps in 1942, he served in China and other Asiatic Countries, as a flyer on a B-24 bomber. After receiving his discharge in 1945, he entered the University of Tennessee and later graduated from the University of Georgia, with a BSF and MF degrees in forestry. Edney worked for some forty years in all of the southeastern states, buying and managing lands for the largest plywood and paper companies. Presently, he manages his own timberlands, where he enjoys the outdoors and the wildlife on his lands.
