Great First Book for Your Child Isn't It Great? is a beautifully illustrated children's book aimed to stimulate that AHA! moment when a child understands the connection between letters and words. Then, using nursery rhymes, it shows the connection between words and sentences, sentences and a story, and stories and a book. With this knowledge, they are ready to read. It then takes the learning further adding the connection between books and the library and the library and community. The colorful smiling letters on the front and back pages can be used to teach the alphabet. From infancy on, children love to hear the alphabet sung over and over again. If you point at each letter as you sing / say it, your child may know the alphabet before they can talk. Read the story every week to observe when your child's eyes light up as they realize that letters go together to make a word. That is the AHA! moment. As your child grows, the other concepts will follow when they are ready to learn them. Visit www.birchlakebooks.com to register your child's AHA! moment.

Isn't It Great? was created in a conversation with six year old Riley while I was cooking dinner. I started with, "Isn't it great how letters go together to make words? Then we continued together as it evolved in our minds. I would have stopped at "Isn't it great how books go together to make a library?" but Riley took it a step further saying, "No Sue, it's not done." adding, "Isn't it great how a library brings people together to make a community?" It seemed perfect. We both agreed. This should be a book. Then it sat there for nearly eight years until we found Tina, our illustrator, who embraced our book and gave it life using color pencils, a sharpie, a little photo shop and a keen understanding of illustrations that will delight a child. We hope Isn't It Great? will make learning the alphabet and words fun for your child. Smiles, Sue, Riley and Tina
