Seattle's A Contemporary Theatre is proud to share eight outstanding new plays from students in our 2009/2010 Young Playwrights Program with you. The eight playwrights featured in PLAY not only developed their plays in the classroom during ACT's Young Playwrights Program in the fall, but also were selected by theatre professionals for inclusion in the ACT Young Playwright Festival. For these young playwrights, the process meant hours of rehearsal with a team of adult working theatre artists, culminating in two staged performances in front of ticket-buying audiences at ACT in March of 2010.

ACT's mission is to inspire our diverse community through theatre that advances our understanding of human life. To dare, excite, and enrich artists and audiences. To steward our many resources. The Young Playwrights Program seeks to provide its young participants with the tools and the opportunity to express aloud their diverse thoughts and ideas. The YPP further seeks to endow them with self-confidence and a sense that their ideas matter and their voices deserve to, and will, be heard.
