Danny Pettry has practiced as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), with a focus on children between the ages of 7 and 13 since 2002. In providing therapeutic care for children, Pettry has used a mix of therapeutic recreation interventions to help in the recovery process. Some of these include: social skills training, empathy training,relaxation training, therapeutic journaling, expressive arts, physical fitness, teambuilding, bibliotherapy, cinematherapy, and other recreational therapies. Danny Pettry was awarded a "Recreational Therapy - Advocate of the Year" in 2005 by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.
