LIFT UP YOUR EYES is a book of daily devotions written by a Christian pastor who over a lifetime of ministry has come to know the hungers and hurts, the hearts and hopes of humanity. It consists of 374 one-page devotions chosen from over two decades of religious columns written for the Saturday editorial page of the Temple Daily Telegram, by the Rev. Clyde E. Nichols, Minister Emeritus of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Temple Texas where he served as senior minister for 23 years from 1963 to 1986. The book contains 365 devotions, one for every day of the year, plus eight for movable holidays (Martin Luther King Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.). Each of the devotions is matched with a carefully chosen memory verse from the Bible. Using wonderful stories, humor, Scripture and anecdotes, this book speaks to the real life situations we all confront and helps us do a better job of meeting them. Each of the daily devotions is calculated to lift the spirit, focus the mind, and bring a more positive perspective on all we are facing. It is for young and old alike-children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens. Kept on the coffee table or night stand, LIFT UP YOUR EYES can be read daily with one's devotions or picked up, opened anywhere, and read two or three at a time for comfort, challenge, personal growth, self-development and self-esteem. To spend a year with LIFT UP YOUR EYES is to grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Rev. Clyde E. Nichols is Minister Emeritus of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Temple, Texas, where he served as senior minister for 23 years from 1963 to 1986. During his pastorate, Clyde was deeply involved in community activities as well as the work of his congregation. He was president of the Kiwanis Club as well as the Ministerial Alliance, chaired both the Temple United School for Christian Leaders and the Ministerial Committee for the Texas Sesquicentennial Celebration, and served on a variety of boards, working for the welfare of Temple and Bell County citizens. He is what a colleague once referred to as a "complete" minister-devoting time and energy to the whole community and to every part of the church (he directed church camps for junior high youth for 15 years!) while remaining conscientiously present to parishioners. From these diverse involvements, Bible study and other reading he produces "Lift Up Your Eyes" his weekly religious column for the Temple Daily Telegram. Appearing each Saturday on the Telegram's editorial page, the column has failed to run only twice since May, 1965. Just two weeks after it first appeared, the Telegram forgot to run it. Six weeks later, when a desperate managing editor called to say they couldn't find his column, Clyde realized he had forgotten to write it. In retirement Clyde does supply preaching, is in demand as a speaker and continues to write his weekly column as well as columns for several other Texas newspapers. His writings have appeared in various denominational magazines. He and his wife Marianne reside in Temple. equidistant from their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They keep busy with volunteer work, traveling, gardening and crafts.
