Synopsis

Peter Hacket was a casualty of the budget cuts to the U.K. Secret Intelligence Services (S.I.S.). His specialist services, like those of his colleagues, were not dispensed with. Officially retired and euphemistically called 'retreads', they were costed to an alternative S.I.S./M.I.6 consultancy budget. The 'retreads' primary function is to dismantle organised crime using the black operational techniques once directly engaged by the S.I.S. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In 18 Million Reasons to Die: - Fernando Ruiz had amassed a fortune smuggling counterfeit currency into Europe, pre and post Euro. He also created two life long enemies. He abandoned his Mexican hacienda for Miami and once there he despatched his son Carlos to school in New York. A video made of Carlos being seduced by his two school colleagues' mothers would have disastrous results. Lives and fortunes would alter when first, a Ruiz currency shipment, destined for Vienna, was found near Heathrow, London and second, in Mexico, the Belize drugs cartels were circulating to take over the Ruiz operations and financial assets. Fernando Ruiz's instinct to save all he gained in his life was tremendous. It would be the sudden and unexpected arrival of a woman who called herself Juliette Harmon that offered a solution. Harmon and her co-hort, Michael Layard, an investment identity stripper, were not who they appeared to be. The problem being, would Hacket's retread team discover this before too many died?
