Synopsis
Lee has surrendered, and the Civil War is over. Eldridge Davis, a grizzled Confederate captain and celebrated hero for the South, returns home to Georgia. Once there he learns the true reason for his homecoming: to preside over the trial of his grandson, Caleb. Caleb fought for the Union, and now he's to stand trial for treason against the Confederacy.
But the war is over, and Eldridge can't reconcile the loss of one more life in the course of a conflict he never wanted?especially when that life belongs to his kin. Eldridge's choice sets in motion a chain of events that unleashes a force more destructive than any war and forces him to show his enemies how he earned the fearsome moniker of the Chickamauga Carver.
