Bishop Alphonso Smith received his call to the ministry in October 1987. On August 10, 1999, he spearheaded the incorporation of a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, A.G.A.P.E. Community Development Corporation, Inc. His goal was to create an "Agency with a Heart for People" that would cater to the holistic person. Bishop Smith serves as First Assistant to the State Bishop of NC for the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. On January 25, 2002, he was elevated as the District Overseer of the East Central District of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International of North Carolina. He serves faithfully and humbly under the leadership of NC State Bishop Aubrey G. Mullen, Jr. in the FGBCFI. Additionally, he serves the International Ministers Covenant Fellowship (IMCF) as the Adjutant General under Presiding Bishop Lorenzo N. Peterson. Bishop Smith is known as "The Encourager" because of his God-given gift to motivate, inspire and give hope to the masses. On December 31, 2008, Bishop Smith launched his current ministry, Destiny Worship Center, in Raleigh, NC to further embrace the spirit of excellence. It is an exciting place where hip hop blends with the Word of God to create magnificent worship, awesome praise, great music, and excellent Word in a love filled atmosphere. Bishop Smith authored the book "What In the Hell happened?" This book is "an intimate look at marriage and relationship with RAW honesty" from a mature, established member of 21st century clergy. Bishop Smith brings a very unique viewpoint to the children of God about how to build, nurture or dissolve a relationship, while maintaining or rebuilding one's covenant with Christ.
