The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) developed this document as a guideline to provide information to organizations on the security capabilities of Bluetooth and provide recommendations to organizations employing Bluetooth technologies on securing them effectively. This document discusses Bluetooth technologies and security capabilities in technical detail. This document assumes that the readers have at least some operating system, wireless networking, and security knowledge. Readers who might benefit from this publication include: government managers, system engineers and architects, auditors, security specialists, and IT analysts. The three main sections deal with an overview of Bluetooth, security features and limitations, and common vulnerabilities with suggested countermeasures.
