The Electrified Landscape explores the arc of life’s experiences, from childhood to youth to maturity, measured by moments of sudden insight, when the impact of a remembered event’s deeper meaning, an afterthought taking flight, the searing consequence of something that was said or done, or a plunge into what was really happening—the emotional back story—are the lightning strikes that ground themselves in the reader’s awareness. The metaphor of shock therapy, captured in the first poem, sets the tone for the remaining poems. “What if, in the end, we are all like shock therapy patients, thriving on isolated moments of illumination, brought on by sudden shocks to the system, separated by dark oceans of torpor where we spend our lives drifting, the negative spaces of our lives defining our waking, thinking moments?”

About the Author

WILLIAM LUTHER WHITE is a poet, short-story writer and novelist living in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife, Cheryl, and three Labrador Retrievers. He has lived in various places throughout the United States—New York, Chicago and Los Angeles—and has traveled and worked in twenty-six countries He received his Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism from the University of Pittsburgh. He studied architecture at Princeton University’s McCormick School of Architecture. This is his first published collection of poetry.
