During the troubles in Northern Ireland it was found that the intelligence on the terrorists was very poor. The knowledge of who the terrorists were, who were sympathisers, where their weapons were being stored and any safe houses they might be using as well as any attacks that were likely to be taking place on the security forces was minimal. After a meeting of senior intelligence staff it was decided to put in place a covert intelligence operative to gather such desperately needed information. It is left to the reader to discern as to whether this book is Fact or Fiction.

Ray Rutherford was born in the British Military Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where his father served with the 1340 Flight of the British Royal Air Force during the Mau Mau troubles. Rutherford traveled the world with his family and lived in many different countries, and after his father retired from the Air Force his family settled down in the town of Hastings in Sussex. However, he found that being settled in one place was not for him, so at the age of sixteen he joined the British army and again traveled the world. One of the countries he served in as a soldier was the troubled land of Northern Ireland, with which he fell in love. He left the Army to join the Royal Ulster Constabulary, where he served for fourteen years before being medically discharged for injuries received in a terrorist incident.
