ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pearce W. Hammond is most qualified to write this book. He has been a dog owner and dog lover for over 40 years and came by his skill for writing quite honestly. His uncle was famed Savannah, GA-born songwriter, Johnny Mercer, who wrote over 1,000 songs and won four Academy Awards for songs which included "Moon River"; "Days of Wine and Roses"; "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening;" and "On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe". Hammond is also an accomplished artist whose work has been featured in many local and regional publications. He now resides in Okatie, South Carolina with his wife, Anne, on the tidal waters and marshes of the Chechessee River .
