Thirteen graduates of Oceanside High School's class of 1963 set out into the world. They are young and excited and the world is at their finger tips. One of these graduates travels to Europe just two days after graduation and returns a changed person. He's gone from being a boy to a man. Another marries just several months later and becomes a mom by the age of 19. Soon they will be faced with some of the most difficult issues imaginable: the draft, Vietnam, college, just making it on their own, relationships, divorce, and even the advent of one's own death. Life is not easy as they experience all that life brings. In this book they've all now turned sixty-five and they look back on what has happened. They take an honest look at themselves and share their lives, their loves, their successes and their failures. And most importantly, these 13 share the wisdom they have learned over these many years on how to be happy, no matter what happens to them.

Dick graduated from Oceanside High School, along with the other thirteen in this book, in 1963. 1963 is a special year because that is the same year that "American Graffiti" took place. He then attended the nearby junior college and his sophomore year went out for the track team. He became the top javelin thrower in the junior colleges in California and received a full athletic scholarship to UCLA. In 1966, UCLA won the national championship and Dick became an All-American. He also set the UCLA school record. Dick worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 34 years, mostly as a school psychologist. Twice he was honored as a "School Psychologist" of the year, and in June of 2000 he was honored by Channel 13 as their "Hero of the Week," for saving students lives. He has written a book about his experiences, "A School Psychologist in East L.A." and it can be purchased through Amazon.com. He is an avid beach volleyball player and has teamed with Butch May, the father of Misty May-Trainer, and twice won the California State Cup in the master's division. Dick is a follower of the now deceased Indian guru, Sai Baba. He's made 13 trips to India and has three books published in India about his experiences. Sai Baba's philosophy of love, peace, truth, right action, non-violence are principles that Dick lives by. He has also made seven trips to Brazil and John of God. Dick is identified as "son of the casa" which indicates that he appears to have a special healing capacity.
