Biographie de l'auteur

The following is a personal message from the author, M. Todd Henderson. "It was June 2003 when I was first diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder which, no doubt, had gone undiagnosed for my entire life. My childhood, 20s, 30s, and 40s were sprinkled with bipolar symptoms including extreme anxiety attacks. The first episode was my headlining role as a pancake in the kindergarten play. I believe I shook like a leaf, knocked the syrup down, and then flopped on top of the fork while attempting to righten the syrup. After that its a bit of a blur. Something about the fork wetting his pants. Anxiety showed up at the usual places like exams, first dates, and job interviews. It even sidelined me from a summer of water skiing - all out of fear that the Great White from the movie Jaws had made its way 1,500 miles inland. It would have been okay if all I had to deal with was sharks and exams and plays. Unfortunately my symptoms also included severe depression. Depression is extended periods of time inside a six foot cube with no stimulus. No light sneaking in through my lids. No sound other than shallow, rushed breaths. No breeze touching my face. Alone. But depression is just as much about fullness as it is about emptiness. I struggle with a simultaneous overload of negativity that reaches deep in my soul to drag out any signs of hope and love. All at once Im inundated with challenges as small as an ant and as big as an elephant, anger for whats happened and about to happen, sorrow for those Ive lost some in the most tragic of ways and the jarring loss of who I thought I was. The loss of being the go-to-marketing-guy at work, the loving husband, the fun dad, the brave youth hockey coach, and the bread winner essentially the loss of who I was for forty-plus years. The last few years my family and I have had to rewrite our roles, goals and expectations.
