Sheila Whalum is the wife of Dr. Kenneth T. Whalum Jr., Pastor of The New Olivet Baptist Church, Memphis City Schools Board of Commissioners and Author of Hip-Hop Is Not Our Enemy. They will celebrate 29 years of Marriage on June 19, 2011. Sheila is the mother of three talented sons: Saxophonist, Kenneth T. Whalum III (Crystal), Vocalist, Kortland Kirk Whalum and Trombonist, Kameron Timothy Whalum. She is President of Aliehs, Inc., (O'Sheilas Beauty and Barber Shop and Christ-Like Modeling). She retired from City of Memphis Government as the Deputy Director of Finance in 2010. In addition, she is the First Lady of The New Olivet Baptist Church located at 3084 Southern Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. Sheila is a graduate of Leadership Memphis. She has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix; a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with a minor in English from the University of Memphis. She received a certificate from Rhodes College for the Institute for Executive Leadership. And, she was a product of Memphis City Schools where she was "Miss Carver of 1978." She is past liaison for the City of Memphis for the Memphis/Shelby County Airport Authority Board. She served as committee member for the City of Memphis Hardship Deferred Compensation Plan; the Retirement System Investment Committee and the Operating Cash Committee. She is past board member for "Friends for Life Aids Awareness Program." Her Professional accomplishments include: Certificate of Achievement (Program of Continuing Education in Public Finance) from Public Financial Management in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Certificate of Achievement from the State of Tennessee Educational Swap Training Course, Certificate of Completion for Arbitrage Compliance. Member of Government Finance Officers Association, United Way Coordinator for the Finance Division. Notary Public At Large, Family Medical Leave (FMLA) Coordinator for Finance. She is an At-Large Board
