Deep in Virginia’s Appalachian Mountains, Patterson Mountain swells and falls like a slumbering beast. It both protects and isolates the home of Jake Patterson and his mother. But the beast is about to awaken. Something sinister breathes in the stone crevices of Patterson Mountain. Jake has become increasingly curious about the details surrounding the mysterious death of his father nine years ago. The mountain calls to him and Jake sets out on a day’s trek to visit the place where his father disappeared…but something more than answers are waiting for him there. A creature named Krindle has been biding his time until he can enlist the aid of Jake to defeat the Parix – an evil army of parasites that live in the caverns inside the mountain. Together, Jake and Krindle journey through this treacherous Virginia underworld, building an army as they go, set on defeating the Parix and freeing the enslaved creatures of the mountain’s arcane spaces. When they reach the heart of the Parix stronghold they discover a species of parasites that enslave and destroy.
