Synopsis

These meditative poems reflect a serious regard for the concept of time as subjective, a conception mediated through dream-experience. Such a conception is used by the poet as a principal vehicle for human healing, and the language invokes a largely universal voice that resonates with deep human needs - especially those conveyed by sound and meditative reflection. Informed by Allen Ginsberg's suggestion that we do well to "listen to what we are thinking," they were largely constructed in solitude, and in tranquil, silent environments, where the author was able to shut out virtually all distractions. The effect of the poems is to transfer that quietude, and its transformative possibilities, over to the meditative reader.

Lawrence Udell Fike, Jr., M.Phil., has taught at numerous colleges and universities and served as a tenured chair of a philosophy department for several years. He is a public speaker and essayist, does stand-up comedy, and writes lyrics to songs that have appeared on network television. He is the author of "Obstinate Air: Poems on Beating The Wind" (also poetry), and of "Piker," a memoir ultimately celebrating redemption over childhood trauma through reconciliation with his formerly abusive father.
