Mahmood bin Muhammad, a leading police theoretician in India, has the rare distinction of serving as Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia after distinguishing himself for decades at the highest levels in the Indian Police Service. He has served on India's Planning Commission on Social Defense and as India's correspondent with the UN Secretariat in the field of prevention of crime and treatment of offenders. He has also been borne on the UN Roster of Experts in the field of crime prevention and public administration. He was awarded the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award in 2006 for his contributions towards promotion of communal harmony and peace in India. He is a Trustee of H.E.H. The Nizam's Charitable and Other Trusts and is actively associated with several other educational, cultural, medical, and philanthropic organizations in India. He is President of the Abul Kalam Azad Oriental Research Institute, Hyderabad. He is a poet and a prolific writer and speaker on an amazingly broad range of subjects. He has published eight books to-date, including an autobiography, 'Fundamentals of Fundamentalism', and 'Anatomy of Terror'. He is widely sought after by TV and print media in India for his commentaries on major political and cultural events
