Synopsis

Brad Bookout’s Super Plan for Jobs This over 500 page document begins by recognizing that while business cycles come and go, and while we are currently in the valley segment or trough of such a severe cycle, the fundamental source of the present downward economic trend we face—including the lack of good jobs, too few prosperous small businesses, and swelling community hardships—is not just the business cycle and all the usual causes we assign to it, but the more core problem of the unusual rise of what the plan calls “hyperglobalism” that is stripping out of our economy our middle class sustaining industries, most notably our manufacturing industries, but also increasingly our service industries. We are shoving the American worker out of the American labor market into the subsistence wage dominated world labor market of the massive modern emerging trade nations, or what the book refers to as the METNs. The book is largely premised on the assertion that the principle of comparative advantage for the US is, in large part, broken. The book shows why this is happening, why the standard talking points of how we can fix the problem are wrong or insufficient to correct the problem, and then the plan proposes what we can do in a fairly direct way that will be effective in reversing the trend. This is the candidate’s jobs and economic development plan. It is newsworthy for that reason, especially given the dire current economic situation and the dearth of substantive and specific proposals evident in this election, at least so far. This document is offered as newsworthy for that reason, not because it is bound into book form and offered in that way. The candidate, and perhaps the constituents of the 6th U.S. Congressional District of Indiana, do not need another book review, and the candidate does not seek that. What is needed is public awareness and discussion of this plan, titled Brad Bookout’s Super Plan for Jobs. Bookout’s plan, in this document, while it does tell the reader who Brad Bookout is and why he is running for office, also states what he believes is urgently needed for our economy, and how we can, with his help and his plan, create prosperous jobs, growing businesses, and thriving communities. But Bookout’s plan does much more than that. What makes Brad Bookout’s super plan for jobs such a big deal is that it provides not only proposals for new economic policy tools to be addressed by legislation, but also numerous proposals, projects, and policies that Brad, once elected, can help implement here and now even if Congress continues to do basically nothing. Certainly, some of the plans within Bookout’s super plan do require Congress to act, but many do not. In addition, the book does not propose solutions that require big spending, enlarging government, massive regulations, or higher taxes. Nor does it require protectionism or privatization of public services, or for the government to pick winners and losers above the private market. Within these guidelines, the book applies notions of a process of non-partisan “creative cooperation” to devise and pose solutions to our economic problems that rely on financially self-sustaining, private sector projects and practices which local, state and federal government can empower by various means detailed in this plan. This plan provides specific examples and illustrations to show some of the unlimited number of possible applications of the methods and policies offered.
