9781468164497: Quantum Inference and the Optimal Determination of Quantum States

Synopsis

Research in the Quantum Information Sciences has exploded since the 1980s, with fascinating results across new fields such as Quantum Cryptography, Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Theory. However, the deep connections between Quantum Measurement, Inductive Logic and the theory of Bayesian Inference have been comparatively less developed. In this work, a facsimile reprint of a 1989 University of Bristol PhD thesis, the reader encounters the formative stages of the theory of Quantum Bayesian Inference. Sections of this thesis were later published [KRW Jones: Annals of Physics, 207 140 (1991)], but the full text contains many previously unpublished computational tricks and asides that will likely be of interest to current workers in the field. It may also prove useful to those who study the historical process of how novel scientific ideas emerge, develop and cross-fertilize across diverse global research centers.

À propos de l?auteur

Kingsley Jones, PhD was born in 1963 and studied physics and mathematics at the Australian National University in Canberra, followed by a doctorate in Theoretical Physics at the University of Bristol in the UK in 1990. During his scientific research career, he published over twenty refereed articles in major journals. He is best known for his work on Quantum Inference and Nonlinear Quantum Mechanics, including his 1993 discovery of the so-called Classical Schrodinger Equation. This is a novel wave equation which reproduces exactly the classical limit of non-relativistic quantum theory. Kingsley left scientific research to enter the world of finance in 1997, and is now a successful hedge fund manager based in Sydney Australia. Today his research focus is on behavioral finance and the development of automated trading systems. He lives with his lovely wife in Kirribilli and a menagerie of mischievous parrots intent on dismantling his apartment.
