Avril Fox has been an environmentalist throughout her long life. She was a Marxist in her twenties, but when the Communists demonstrated in Russia that they could not move on to democracy, never having known it, and clung to the "dictatorship of the proletariat" she left them. She debated Mrs. Whitehouse at Durham University and won. Later she travelled round the globe studying butterflies and moths, producing 281 life histories in South America, Malaysia, and Kenya. She also studied cultures, and this book is the result of years of study. Her conclusions in the present volume are the cumulation of a lifetime's research, including the latest findings on the BBC.
