John attended Raritan high school from 1970 through 1974 graduating in 1974. In his years at Raritan John played basketball and lettered 3 years in that sport. John earned recognition for his personal athletic accomplishments being named to the following: 151 Team All News Tribune 2nd Team All County Daily Register 3rd Team All Shore Asbury Park Press 1974 Prep-All-American Team Daily Register Athlete of the Week MVP of the 1974 team Leading scorer in Monmouth County-24 points per game in 21 games for 504 points. John still holds the record for best single season in RHS history. John sights the wonderful camaraderie with his teammates as part of the reason why he was so successful in the game. He thanks coach Mike Urich for giving him the "green light" and for his helpful teammates Steve Hagan, Bill Kirgan, Ed Carroll, and Dan Frigletti . John 's athletic highlights include shutting down and outplaying the number one guard in the state, Jacky Gilloon from Memorial West New York. His most memorable moment was scoring 41 and 42 points in back to back games against Brick and Matawan and having his mother present at the Matawan game, the only game she could make. John currently resides in Middletown, N.J. and lives by him self, his grown children see him frequantly. John is retired from the Hazlet Board of Education. He is also in his 17th year as an IABBO high school basketball official. John especially enjoys his position as the commissioner of the MFB, an outdoor high school basketball league played in the off season. This league allows young children to express-themselves on the court just like John did some 30 years ago .
