Raised in Southern California, the author spent a brief period of his early years in San Diego prior to relocating to Los Angeles, California. Being born to a family of ten children, he is the youngest of five boys and sole surviving son, with two living sisters. Being inducted into the army in 1966, he served two years in Vietnam. After being discharged in 1972, he returned to Los Angeles and eventually found employment with the federal government as a civil servant. While employed, he served fourteen months in Iraq from January 2005 to April 2006, in support of our troops and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2008, he retired from the federal government after thirty-three years. He currently resides in Virginia with his wife and two sons. Throughout the years, the author has studied and observed the black condition. He has listened to many high-profile speakers speak about black issues and what must be done. However, in his opinion, not one of these speakers has been able to motivate blacks to change their American mind-set (capitalism, white supremacy, prejudice, and economic bureaucracy) and take charge of their independence as a united people. Unfortunately and instead, blacks have been bamboozled with empty solution and theories that profited them nothing and often cost them more than they gained. Through his life, the author has sought various means to address and sound the alarm to the devastating condition of the so-called black man and woman here in America. His thoughtful purpose in the writing of this book is his hope to awaken a people unaware of their true identity, history, culture, nationality, language, and religion, and to awaken black consciousness to the sale and promotion of false hope and propaganda that has over the past 450 years influenced the black community and the black mind-set. The author’s desire is that this book will be a catalyst that reaches into the black consciousness by providing an informative story line that will challenge the minds of the reader to start studying and searching for the truth and to awaken and step into tomorrow. Being an analytical and logical thinker, the book is viewed as being very controversial and carries a strong message that cannot be overlooked or dismissed. The author hopes that you enjoy the read.
Stepping into Tomorrow: The Awakening throws a spotlight on the worsening condition of black men and women living in America and their survival or extinction, if they remain unconscious to what is happening in their lives. The plight of black people is a major concern for Sheila, a young and upcoming chief executive officer (CEO) at one of Chicago’s prominent financial, marketing, and investment firms. In her attempt to understand the black condition, Sheila must first understand the psychological stereotypes levied against blacks in general. She must also come to terms with the relationship between the black man and woman, their mind-set, and why she is unable to open herself to love. Through her friends, Tameka, one of Chicago’s top defense attorneys, and Connie, a successful small business owner, they, in their many debates and discussions, look at the plight of blacks. Although these exchanges are informative, Sheila, however, still struggles with in her consciousness to find a solution that will bring her people to an awakened state. From her perspective, blacks are on a road that can only lead to destruction. Therefore, Sheila is convinced that an awakening is needed and that someone must sound the alarm.
