Synopsis

Capitol Changing, the debut novel of Mary Walters, is a political thriller set in Washington, D.C. in the year 2020. After a global hacking event shakes the foundation of American government and irrevocably breaks citizens’ faith in the democratic system, the American people decided to literally take back their government. No more would people be elected to the House of Representatives; with the 28th Amendment to the Constitution, the House would become a conglomeration of randomly selected citizens. Capitol Changing reveals how these 435 Americans face the political establishment - including many politicians still clinging to the old ways - as well as each other.

À propos de l'auteur

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mary Walters, a registered nurse, has been working in emergency rooms large and small from Maine to Alaska since the mid-90s. As a traveling nurse, Mary says she “gets paid to see the country” while she explores different American cultures, always on the search for interesting stories to tell. Chicago is Mary’s home base but she still works and travels around the country, enjoying her nomadic lifestyle. NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR The political idea that this novel explores -”selection, not election” - was mentioned to me only in passing back in the late 90s. I never thought about it again until one fateful day back in 2008 when I awoke with three days’ worth of ideas on how to turn that premise into a book. With virtually no writing experience, I started on a personal mission to tell the story of what it might be like if Americans were randomly selected to serve in Congress. Capitol Changing is the culmination of that four-year endeavor - a political thriller that some would say destiny dropped in my lap.
