Synopsis

Ita Sequeira suffered from a debilitating form of rheumatoid arthritis. This book is about her life as remembered by her many friends and family. It covers her early years, in India, as remembered by her older brother, her moving to America in her twenties, and her life in Berkeley where she lived, by herself, in the same apartment, for over 40 years. I first met Ita at a Lenten discussion group in 2007. At the time, this 80 pound woman in a 400 pound electric wheel chair would travel over a mile through city streets to attend our meetings. Ita died in December of 2009. It was only at her memorial at Saint Augustine in 2010 that I felt, after hearing her friends talk about her, this lady was a Saint. Her life was filled with pain and suffering, but it was also filled with joy and hope. She never ceased to find beauty in the people and places around her. She enriched the lives of those who knew her. I believe she is now with GOD in heaven.
