Falling form Eden, Inc. became an Amazon International Best Seller in August of 2014, was Runner up in the Sci-fi category at the 2013 Los Angeles Book Festival, and a received Honorable Mention status at the New England Book Festival. BOOK REVIEW First-time author Wright tells the story of a man who returns to Earth—after being stranded in outer space—with skills to save the U.S. from corporate fascism. To save his father’s waning gym business, Ethan takes a lucrative out-of-town job—way out of town, at a space resort orbiting Earth. Flying debris devastates the resort, leaving sole survivors Ethan and his friend Ascot exiled for eight years until they can aim an escape pod at their home planet. Back on Earth, they realize that years of living in artificial gravity have augmented their strength and senses. The U.S. is now ruled by militaristic corporations, including Eden, Inc., creator of the cosmic resort. Eden’s owner, Casper, believes that Ethan may derail plans to monopolize celestial real estate. Wright’s novel doesn’t skimp on the sci-fi details, but it also delivers exhilarating action sequences and espionage. An anti-big-business theme is made clear with allusions to corporate bailouts. The author smartly spends little time detailing the eight years in orbit, avoiding comparisons to other sci-fi stories of outer-space isolation; and he shows the pod’s crash landing from someone else’s perspective (a witty nod to UFOs), initially suggesting that the men are indeed aliens. Wright scores with memorable characters. Casper’s cronies, in fact, are supervillains to Ethan and his superhero abilities—The Crusher (whose name says it all), The Fly (a man strapped with a jet pack) and The Valkyrie (a formidable female assassin). The novel is further reinforced with shrewd allusions to the biblical Eden and stellar technological weapons, including nanobots and a Kevlar suit designed for stealth. There’s also humor throughout—though the paramount joke is the origin of the resort-destroying debris. A novel that never bows to formula, regaling with its creativity.

Ross Wright grew up in Laguna Beach California. As a kid he was intrigued by sci-fi novels and comic books. Now years later not much has changed, he still reads sci-fi and checks in periodically to see what’s cool at the local comic book shops. Today he lives in Los Angeles on a hill with a view. He makes a living as a professional musician. He is a published composer of concert music and has written music for films, TV and theater. He has toured all over the world as a bassist with a variety of acts. He best know as the creator, composer, and conductor of the Orchestre Surreal where he uses the pseudonym Elvis Schoenberg, and has produced and released several CDs with that group. He is also a health nut and certified fitness instructor who teaches group exercise classes at Gold’s Gym. When he’s not doing all those things he is writing books and screen plays.
