John Singe taught Senior English and History at high schools in North Queensland and Papua New Guinea during four decades. He lived for many years in the Torres Strait Islands and experienced island life and culture amongst the 'old people' in the villages. He has written five previous books on Torres Strait history which have attracted wide public and critical acclaim. His particular interests are historical research, writing, travelling and diving in the Pacific Islands. He has retired to Cooktown with his wife Barbara of the Sui-Baydham clan from Saibai Island. This is his first novel.
