Emma Stolte Garrod was born on November 23, 1882, over a saloon in San Francisco. During her lifetime, she saw the world move from the horse and buggy era to the landing of a man on the moon. A remarkable woman, Emma recounts her experiences growing up on a subsistence farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, attending a one-room school, and living life in her rural mountaintop community. She chronicles being in San Francisco during the Great 1906 Earthquake and living in Saratoga as the family matriarch on a prune and apricot ranch. Herein lies a history of the Los Gatos/Saratoga area; herein lie the stories of Emma's early life: her friends, family, and community-written in her own unique and captivating style.
