Synopsis
This memoir is the journey of earning the Ph.D. and being at Saint Mary's despite being born in the projects, abandoned by drug addicted parents and being under prepared to do so. Hopefully people like me who came from where I did realize that if I did it they can too. Families, educators, and community/youth organizers can have substantive discussions and be the change they seek!

Dr. Yvette LaShone Pye will be promoted to associate professor at Saint Mary U. of MN in the Doctor of Leadership Program based on her: teaching, community/youth service, publications, mentoring, speaking, and leadership. It began at Chicago State University, receiving a BS in Education and culminated by earning a MA and PhD in Geography (Urban Social) from the U of MN. With fourteen years of research experience and five years teaching in Higher Education she coordinates efforts between diverse community groups, and builds rapport with colleagues at all levels. She's deeply fulfilled by loved ones and through research endeavors across the US and aboard (Brazil and Kenya). She recently authored chapter 14, Innovations in Mentoring: The Many Faces of Chosen to Achieve in Breaking the Mold of Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students.
