Synopsis

This is the fourth volume of an epic series which combines ancestral, Mormon, and American history. It focuses upon Mormon history in northeastern Ohio and western Missouri during the years 1833-35, which primarily involves Joseph Smith's attempt to come to terms with the violent Mormon expulsion from Jackson County, Missouri, which his revelations had designated as the New Jerusalem/Zion. He leads a Mormon army to Missouri in 1834 in an unsuccessful attempt to "liberate Zion" and afterwards focuses Mormon attention on constructing the Kirtland (Ohio) Temple. The author's Carter ancestors become Church leaders and one dies in Missouri.
