Born in the old textile mill town of Fall River, Massachusetts, Paul R. Payton moved to the country when he was twenty-five years old. He became an outdoor enthusiast and wrote numerous articles, detailing his global outdoor adventures, for sportsmen’s magazines. His love of the outdoors eventually took him to rural Southeast Nebraska, where he began Sheah Blue Vineyards, which he named after two of his granddaughters. Payton’s life in this rural setting of the Midwest was the inspiration for his first novel, Ransom by Mail. He recently celebrated his thirty-fifth wedding anniversary with his wife, Cris. They have three children, Sean, Kathryn, and Ryan, and three grandchildren, Blue, Sheah, and Mazlynn.
