Synopsis

NOTE: This is the first edition. We have a second edition available.

Before you buy this book, there's something you should know.

The questions in this book originally came from our website, ESL Conversation Questions. Since this book was first published in 2012, the website has grown a lot. It now has over 5,000 conversation questions across 100+ topics, all organized by CEFR level from beginner to advanced, with free printable PDFs for every topic. The website is free and always will be.

So if you're looking for the biggest, most organized collection of ESL conversation questions, the website is honestly the better choice.

What this book gives you that the website doesn't:

• A compact, one-page-per-topic format; about 10 questions per topic, no scrolling, no decisions. Just copy and go.
• 30+ topics not currently on the website, including Money, Pets, History, Hobbies, Retirement, Weddings, and more.
• A short classroom guide with tips on timing, group size, and how to keep students talking.
• Everything in one paperback; no internet needed.

What the website gives you that this book doesn't:

• 5 to 6 times more questions per topic (50–80 per topic vs. about 10)
• Questions organized by difficulty level (A1-A2, A2, B1, B2, C1)
• New topics and improved questions added regularly
• Free downloadable PDFs for every topic

The truth is, if I were a teacher discovering this for the first time today, I'd start with the website. But this book still has a place; it's quick, it's portable, and it covers topics the site hasn't gotten to yet. You know your situation better than I do.

There are actually 1,436 questions across 134 topics in this book, more than the title suggests. It also includes practical classroom tips I picked up from years of using these questions with my own students.
