Charles Davis is a recently retired college administrator and teacher of philosophy, logic and ethics at a medium/maximum security prison in Illinois. He also is the preaching minister for a small rural church in Illinois. Mr. Davis has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Indianapolis as well as the Master of Arts and Master of Divinity degrees from Lincoln Christian University. His real passion is to steer the conventional understanding of the New Testament from shallow twaddle to a more comprehensive real world understanding. The people who wrote the New Testament as well as those who read it were real people. They pursued their lives within social, religious, political, economic and existential problems. It seems that the people of God are searching for something more than stale ancient interpretations of the most important message man has received from God.

The Sermon on the Mount is very much more than a sermon. Mr. Davis argues that it characterizes the core principles for those who would be disciples of Christ. Specifically, The Sermon on the Mount argues that its thesis is that God calls people to voluntarily repent of sins and too voluntarily accept the responsibility for complying with what Jesus calls the righteousness that surpasses the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees apart from which no one can expect to attain to the Kingdom of Heaven. Davis argues that the application of Christ’s principles is grounded in the fundamental reality that “Sin is inherently dysfunctional” and the only remedy is repudiating dysfunction and complying with holiness. Davis further argues that to comply with holiness must begin in character transformation such that the Kingdom disciple performs righteous deeds from a righteous character.
