"Sturdy Trees is a book about strength when we are tested most. It is a book about the life and the people in our world that help us stand tall and grow...even once our time together is over. Michele DeMeo, well known as an expert in sterile processing in healthcare is now a patient herself, diagnosed with ALS. Michele believes that your soul lives as long as your legacy. Today, she dedicates her life to making a difference, to pushing herself beyond what is humanly possible, to giving back to the many people who have influenced her life. By coincidence or some plan of fate, Michele DeMeo and Sue MacInnes have something important in common. It is not just a background in healthcare, but a more magnifying bond from a disease that you have to “win.” Sue’s husband, Doug, passed away from ALS, and although Michele and Sue originally connected while Doug was still alive, his passing created a stronger bond and understanding. Upon meeting, Michele asked Sue if she would contribute a chapter to her book, Sturdy Trees; serve as co-author and use proceeds from the book to support the family’s ALS foundation, StepsforDoug.
