About Lloyd Behrendt Born at Guantanamo Bay Naval Air Station, Behrendt’s life in an Air Force family led to him becoming what he describes as “the original Space Brat” – beginning the moment he saw the very first US rocket take off from a Florida beach as a toddler. He has watched and covered the program as a photojournalist since the launch of Apollo 14, and currently has more than 300 launches on film. The B&W still images freeze moments in history as he transforms them into original photo oil paintings. He continues to cover the US space program from Florida's launch site. Behrendt’s first book, "Birds of Hope...A Primer for the Future," uses his unusually historical artwork to depict the coexistence of Central Florida’s man-made "space birds" with the natural, winged creatures that inhabit the area, and shares the accidental lesson of how rockets have saved their feathered neighbors. Behrendt’s passion for documenting mankind’s journey into space comes from a lifetime living the US space program since 1950. He has begun a pictorial series, lil marsh books, to share the magic hiding in freshwater wetland habitats. Behrendt is a liberal arts graduate of the University of Florida. He lives with his Australian Shepard, Ari, at Blue Sawtooth Studio, nestled in palmetto and pine scrub in the quaint town of Malabar, Florida.
